Sir
Female students of all public universities of the country are facing acute accommodation crisis. It is hampering their academic activities. Though number of students is increasing every year, authorities are not constructing new dormitories. This is aggravating the accommodation crisis. Many female students are compelled to live outside the campuses of their respective universities due to dearth of dormitories.
According to the University Grants Commission (UGC) about 22,301 female students out of 65,011 of 32 public universities are enjoying accommodation facilities. Poor budgetary allocation was learnt to be hindering the solution of the accommodation crisis. Scores of female students are bearing the brunt of the situation.
After failing to get seats in the university dormitories, many female students are forced to stay outside by renting houses of hostels. In the circumstances, many students are facing various problems. The problems aggravate as most of the house owners are reluctant to rent out houses to the girls. There is also lack of security for the female students living in private accommodation outside the campuses. The present government has taken various measures for the development of the education sector. A few more measures would be a valuable addition to the sector. The accommodation crisis of female students of public universities should be solved on priority basis to facilitate their unhindered education.
