Fire guts machinery
A devastating fire gutted machinery and raw materials of a cotton mill at Banglabazar in Joydebpur upazila in Gazipur yesterday morning.
Joydebpur Fire Station officer Hasibur Rahman said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at Ambar Cotton Mill at about 7am and burned down cotton, thread and machineries of the mill.
On information, two firefighting units from Joydebpur rushed in and put out the blaze after one hour of frantic efforts. The extent of losses from the fire was not assessed officially.
One held with 400kg jatka
A team of police in a drive arrested a fish trader and seized 400 kg of jatka (Hilsha fry) from Balughat area in Barisal Tuesday night.
Based on secret information, police conducted the drive in the area and arrested him with the jatka, district fisheries officer Bimal Chandra Das said.
Later, the seized jatka were distributed among poor people, he added.
Three drug shops fined
A mobile court in Sylhet city on Tuesday fined three drug shops for selling date expired medicines.
The mobile courts led by executive magistrate Mohammod Hai Joki conducted the drive from 5pm to 6 pm.
In Shibganj Road IS pharmacy was fined Tk 5,000, Maya Pharmacy in Islampur was fined Tk 2,000 and in Shaporan Jonosheba Pharmacy was fined Taka 2,000 and seized date expired medicines worth Taka 10,000.
CPA evicts 16 illegal shops
A mobile court of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) in a drive today evicted 16 shops and restaurants from its owned land at citys Bandar-EPZ area.
CPA Executive Magistrate Mohammad Abul Hashem along with police and CPA Ansar members conducted the drive and evicted 16 shops and restaurants from CPA-owned land at citys Bandar and CEPZ area. The court also fined TK 18 thousand to two shops.
The CPA Executive Magistrate said the establishments were evicted under Port Authorities Lands and Buildings (Recovery of Possession) Ordinance, 1962.
