Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) suspended all kinds of activities of its Chittagong University unit committee for an indefinite period for factional clashes on the campus for the last few days.
The decision of suspension came following an infighting of two rival groups ‘sixty nine’ and ‘Bijoy’ on Tuesday night over establishing supremacy on the campus. Four students were injured and they were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Police sources also said that at least four rooms of Suhrawardy Hall were vandalised during the clash shortly after midnight on Wednesday. Alamgir Tipu, president of the suspended committee, led the group titled ‘sixty nine’, while its secretary Fazly Rabby Sujon led ‘Bijoy’ group. Saifur Rahaman Shohag, president of Bangladesh Chhatra league (BCL) of central committee confirmed the decision. He said ‘The present committee of BCL CU unit was suspended for indefinite period as they frequently involving in clash among them and activities of the unit will remain suspended until further notice. “Alamgir Tipu and Fazly Rabby Sujon were asked to explain as to why Tipu and Sujon will not be suspended within a three-day,” said Shohag.
However, CU authorities yesterday formed an investigation committee with four members to find out cause of the clash. Mentionable, CU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) committee was formed on July 21, 2015 declaring only the names of president and secretary.
