Man held with 118 rare tortoises

Benapole: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a man along with 118 tortoises of rare species and 300 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Churamankathi area in Sadar upazila of Jessore district on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
Rab-6Jessore commanding officer Major Abdullah Al Mehedi said being tipped-off that some rare species of tortoises were being smuggled into the country from India, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a three-wheeler (Nasimon) at about 9:00pm.
Rab members arrested Jahangir Hossain, son of late Abdul Gafur of South Burujbagan area in Sharsha upazila of Jessore, while other smugglers and the vehicle driver managed to flee.
