ICT prosecutor Mohammad Ali withdrawn

UNB

The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has withdrawn prosecutor Mohammad Ali “in the public interest” from all cases involving the tribunal, reports UNB. According to a letter signed by Chief Prosecutor Ghulam Arieff Tipoo, prosecutor Ali has been withdrawn from all case proceedings including the cases against war crimes suspects Shamsul Haque and Hossain Tarafdar. “Prosecutor Mohammad Ali has been removed from all war crimes trial investigations including those of Al Badr Shamsur Rahman and Hossain Tarafdar,” it read. According to the letter, Ali has been asked to stay away from case proceedings until any further notice. It did not cite any other specific reason behind the decision except ‘public interest’. Some media outlets claimed that there were allegations of ‘irregularities’ brought against him. In 2014, Prosecutor Turin Afroz filed a complaint with police over suspicions of data theft from her computer at her ICT office. Ali also filed a complaint with police seeking ‘proper investigation’ of the incident as he shares the same room with Afroz at the ICT prosecution’s office.
