Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq yesterday said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is trying to tarnish the image of Liberation War by questioning the settled issue of total figure of Liberation War martyrs, reports UNB. "Begum Zia is hatching conspiracy to turn Bangladesh into mini Pakistan so that she raised question on the settled issue of 30 lakh Liberation War martyrs," he said. The minister was addressing the cover unveiling ceremony of a book "Muktijuddhe Bideshi Bandhura" (Foreign Friends in Liberation War) written by Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro singer Fakir Alamgir at Nazrul Manch of Bangla Academy on the ninth day of month-long Amar Ekushey Granthamela.
Mozammel Huq said the dissemination of distorted history in the 21 years after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman could not prevent the true history of Liberation War. "This book of Fakir Alamgir is an evidence of the true history. Fakir Alamgir upheld the contribution of the foreigners who supported us during the Liberation War," he said. He said the book also expressed the contribution of the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and common people of India. "Though US and UK did not support us officially yet the common people of the two countries stood beside us. Their contributions are also written in this book," he said.
Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus, Fakir Alamgir and Samar Barua were present on the occasion, among others.
