Man commits suicide after killing daughter

A man committed suicide after killing his one and a half years-old daughter at his home in Bhaluka upazila yesterday. The deceased are rickshaw-van driver Jamil Hossain, 40, a resident of Boroichala in the upazila and his daughter Rabeya Begum. Quoting Jamil’s wife Rokeya Begum, Officer-in-Charge of Bhaluka Police Station Mamun-ur-Rashid said the man, who has huge debt burden, might have taken his own life to escape poverty. Jamil first slit throat of his daughter and then inflicted serious injuries on him with the same knife at around 6:30am, the OC said. Jamil succumbed to his injuries while neighbours were taking him to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex at around 7:00am.Later, police sent the bodies to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
