The Capital saw a little rain on Monday, washing the dust off the streets, making the trees glisten and thinning the veil of fog. Although it was only 1 mm, the showers did help the ferry boats ply the vast stretch of the Padma unhindered yesterday, both at Shimulia and Paturia terminals to the southern and northern sides of the capital after days of fog threatening smooth navigation, ferry operators from the BIWTC said. Meanwhile, the meteorologists predicted some more showers during the next 24 hours, beginning 6:00 pm yesterday over a couple of places in Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet divisions and Comilla region. The rains were the result of an easterly low pressure that built up over West Bengal and its adjoining areas, accompanied by a westerly pressure over Bihar and adjoining areas. The highest rainfall was recorded in Chuadanga at 71mm, followed by 10mm at Faridpur. The shower and presence of the clouds also raised the temperatures in Dhaka city, with 27.5 degrees Celsius being the maximum and 18.6C minimum, signalling that winter was on its way out.
