Girl raped, killed in Pirojpur

A college girl, whose body was found in a paddy field yesterday, is suspected to have been killed after rape in Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district.
The victim has been identified as Shirin Akhter, 18 daughter of Md Safizuddin, hailing from village North Khetachira. She was a student at Shahadat Hossain College and a HSC examinee this year.Police arrested one Syed Kazi, 45, a suspect in the killing, from village khetachira.
Md Mostafizur Rahman, Mathbaria officer-in-charge (OC), said while Shirin was returning home early morning on Tuesday from a visit to her relative in the neighboring village she might have been raped and killed on the way.
The victim’s elder sister Kazol first saw the body in the field at around 9.30 am and informed the police.
Man crushed under wheels of train
Benapole: A local leader of Krishak League was killed
when he was hit by a speeding train at Naoapara in Abhoynagar upazila of Jessore district on Monday night, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Abhoynagar police station Nasir Uddin said a Jessore-bound train crashed into Atiar Rahman Molla, 50, an executive member of Abhoynagar upazila unit of Krishak League, farmers’ front of the ruling Awami League, around 8.00pm while he was crossing the rail tracks, leaving him injured.
He was rushed to Abhoynagar upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.
Elderly man killed during brawl
Sunamganj: An elderly man died from injuries he received during a brawl with his neighbours over a trifling matter such a quarrel among children at Kabirpur village in Jagannathpur upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
Quoting villagers, Mohammad Mursalin, officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur village, said children of the families of Mokhles Ullah and his neighbour Abdul Khalek had quarrel during playing in the house yard in the evening.
Over the issue, Khalek hit Mokhles, 80, son of late Makram Ullah of the village under Chilaura Haldipur union, with elbow, leaving him critically injured.
Man held over attack on church
Chuadanga: Police arrested a man from Ghatpara area of Damurhuda upazila on Monday evening in connection with the incident of attack on a Christian church early Sunday, reports UNB.
Liakat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station, said on secret information, a team of police led by Sub-inspector (investigation) Ziaul Haque conducted a drive at the village and arrested Abul Hossain, 38, son of Khorshed Mallick, a resident of the village.
Earlier a gang of criminals carried out an attack on the Catholic church and looted some cash, gold ornaments worth Tk 7lakh and a rifle of the priest of the church early Sunday. The miscreants also beat three nuns and a night guard of the church.Later a case was filed with the police station accusing 15/16 people.
400 kg jatka seized in Barguna
BARGUNA: Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive seized 400kgs of jatka (hilsa fry) from a launch at Tetulbaria Ghat under Pathorghata upazila of the district last night, reports BSS.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of coast guard from Pathorghata camp halted the Barguna-bound launch 'MV Nasir' and seized the Jatka searching the launch, Coast Guard sources said.However, the fish traders fled the scene sensing the presence of the Coast Guard members.
Body recovered in Chuadanga
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chuadanga

 Police recovered the body of an unidentified man at village Loknathpur in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga on Monday.
Police sources said villagers found the body lying in a crop field. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
The body was sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for postmortem examination. A case was filed with Damurhuda police station. Investigation is going on, police sources added.
