Speakers at a function underscored the need for reaching the legal aid services to the grassroots alongside expediting the services towards the poor and distressed victims for protecting their fundamental rights, reports BSS.
They also expressed their view that importance should be given on bringing close coordination between the works of all the development organizations and judiciary aimed at building a network to earn positive result in legal aid services.
They came up with the comments while addressing at a quarterly coordination meeting organized by district legal aid committee at the conference room of the district judgeship of the town here on Monday evening in association with SKS Foundation under its Strengthening Community Legal Services in Northern Bangladesh project funded by UKaid and Community Legal Services.
District and session judge and chairman of district legal aid committee Rasheda Sultana presided over the meeting while senior assistant judge and district legal aid officer M. Rawshan Alam moderated the function.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Bicharak of Nari o Shishu Nirjatan Daman Tribunal Ratneshwor Bhatacharjwa, additional district and sessions judge Shariful Islam, chief judicial magistrate M. Shahidullah, additional police super M. Faruque Hossain, public prosecutor M. Shafiqul Islam, acting Sadar upazila chairman Rashida Begum, and programme coordinator Sarder Lutful Kabir.District and sessions judge Rasheda Sultana in her speeches said entire people are equal to the eye of the law so emphasis should be given on bringing all the victimized people under the legal aid coverage whatever and whenever they need.Giving priority to the legal aid related cases is very important in terms of speedy disposal in the greater interest of the distressed and poor justice-seeker litigants, she added.
