Boro farming in full swing in Mymensingh

Farmers in the district are now passing busy days in cultivating Boro paddy aimed at producing more than 10 lakh tonnes of paddy during the current Rabi season, reports BSS.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has fixed the cultivation target of Boro paddy at 2,59,671 hectares of land. Of the total, hybrids were cultivated on 30,149 hectares of land, Upshee on 2,29,229 hectares and local varieties on 293 hectares.
DAE sources said over 2,36,209 hectares of land have been brought under boro cultivation so far in the region.
Of the total 19,100 hectares in Mymensingh Sadar upazila, 15,200 hectares in Muktagacha, 17,350 hectares in Phulbaria, 19,550 hectares in Trishal, 14,345 hectares in Bhaluka, 16,650 hectares in Gaffargaon, 19,485 hectares in Nandail, 20,310 hectares in Ishwarganj, 20,052 in Gouripur, 21,700 in Tarakanda, 20,647 hectares in Phulpur, 20,455 hectares in Haluaghat and 11,365 hectares in Dobaura.
Sources said the BADC distributed necessary seeds among the farmers for boro farming.
Besides, the state-run banks have been distributing loans among the farmers to assist them to cultivate Boro paddy.
