Law urges young Tigers to show their best

The national team’s giant stride to the world cricket is believed to make a huge impact on the junior cricketers as they wanted to emulate the senior team, a thing that acted as the catalyst of Bangladesh’s success in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
While talking to the reporters yesterday, the team’s technical advisor Stuart Law endorsed the fact, stating, “They had great strides forward in the last couple of weeks. That’s due to the real success of the national team. The young Tigers want to emulate what their heroes are doing. We have been conscious that we want to make steady improvements each day and the boys are working hard to that.”
Bangladesh were hardly challenged on their way to seal the semi-final spot in their familiar condition even though Law disagreed with it. According to him, the biggest challenge for Bangladesh was defending champions South Africa whom they beat overcoming a huge pressure in and off the field.
“I think we have seen the crunch days. We played South Africa, the defending champions and we also played against Nepal in the quarterfinal which was in the balance there for a long time. So we have come through those two games. So I think we will prepare for that situation,” he pointed out.
In their semi-final clash, Bangladesh will take on West Indies, a familiar opponent whom they beat in 12 consecutive matches. On paper, Bangladesh are outright favourite but West Indian pacers who had already clocked 140 plus in speed gun could pose a threat.
Law however was unfazed by the challenge. He heaped praise on the players but stressed on to put up their best against West Indies should they fulfill their aspiration of moving to the first ever final in the tournament.
“We know that they’ve some good pacer bowlers and they’ve some hard hitting batsmen. We’re not worried about how they play, We’re worried about how we play. And we know that they’re going to be very tough every time they’ve gone out there in the cricket field they’ve made improvement. Right now they’ve played very good cricket. We’ll have to play very well to nullify them,” he remarked.
“We’re just preparing. Cricket it’s a game where if you worry too much of what others are doing, you lose the game. So we need to forget about everyone else, focus on what we need to do,” Law told reporters.
On the other hand, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who could be Bangladesh’s X factor in the semi-final said that they are prepared to come all guns blazing.
“There is nothing to be relaxed. The process will be the same whoever our opponent is. If we can show our best, we’ll overcome them,” said Shanto, who is eying to be the highest scorer of the tournament.
“There is no end of doing well. I could do worse batting in one or two matches. There is good and bad time in cricket. But we are working on it. Hopefully it will be better,” he reckoned.
He said they are just focused on the semi-final match, giving the final no thought as yet.
“We all have aspiration to play in the final. But we could not think much about the final. We are just focusing on the semifinal match as of now.”
Shanto said the West Indian team wouldn’t be easy to beat despite they have the upperhand on them as far as the record is concerned.
“We played a series with them before the World Cup. They’ve been in the country since many days. They made their adjustment very good and play a good cricket. They are in good tough at the moment. The team who will play well on the given day will be winners and it’s the fact of one-day cricket.”
