Former Pakistan skipper turned commentator Rameez Raja has made him the eternal enemy of Bangladesh fans after insulting Bangladesh cricket team and its players yet again.
The former Pakistan Cricket Board CEO Rameez, who is a member of the commentary panel of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), courted a controversy following the interview session during presentation ceremony with Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal.
Following his run-a-ball-51 in a tough wicket against Islamabad United in another match-winning effort, Tamim, playing for Peshwar Zalmi, dazzled with an unbeaten 47 ball-55 against Lahore Qalanders on Monday and was adjudged man of the match.
Tamim after receiving the MoM award walked to Rameez, the host of the presentation ceremony, only to get surprised.
“I cannot speak your language, what will do English or Urdu,” said Rameez as Tamim walked to him. Tamim in reply said Rameez to proceed in English and delivered a good presentation interview.
What has irked the Bangladesh cricket fanatics was the way Rameez had tried to present Tamim – the Bangladesh cricketer doesn’t know to speak in English. It is a fact that there are many Bangladesh cricketers who are weak in communicating in English but in case of Tamim, the left-handed batsman is one of the best speakers of the language in Bangladesh cricket.
Bangladesh fans questioned Rameez’s professionalism and dedication as he been a frequent member of commentary team during a Bangladesh game. The Bangladesh supporters thought the former Pakistan cricketer should know about Tamim at least a little. And if Rameez does not, then there is a serious issue with his professionalism and that he never does his home work.    
“Rameez Raja says do you know English? There should not be any reason for such idiocy. Was it the first he saw Tamim. He has been offensive towards Shakib (Al Hasan) too. I cannot understand his motive here,” commented Abdulla Almamun on Tamim’s official Facebook page.
Another comment, by Ali Ebrahim, said, “Tamim was the man of the match in the PSL today (yesterday). Commentator Rameez Raja during the interview asked Tamim Iqbal – I don’t know your language. Is it okay if it is in English or Urdu. Tamim replied English is fine. I think Rameez cannot accept that Tamim won the MoM. I have never heard a commentator address someone is such a way.”
The last 53-year-old Rameez riled the Bangladesh fans were during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Visibly not a fan of Bangladesh cricket, Rameez openly offended Bangladesh as a country as well as its cricket teams several times during their Bangladesh’s Pool A opener against Afghanistan.
Rameez has history of putting himself in boiling water through his offensive commentary. After undermining India during their clash against archrival Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup in Mirpur, Rameez was fined 10 per cent of his commentary fee as he pleaded guilty to a Level 1 breach of the International Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct.
