Fire breaks out at Dhanmondi; old woman dies

A 75-years old woman died at the capital’s Dhanmondi residential area engulfed by fire that broke out at a twelve-storied building on Saturday night, reports BSS.
The woman was identified as Munnujan Begum. The fire originated at the ground floor of the building located at house no-85/2, Road no-8/A at West Dhanmondi and then it was engulfed the upper floors at around 1.20 am on Saturday night.
The fire fighters also rescued 50 inhabitants from the building, fire service source said.
“We have recovered an old woman in unconscious state from the eighth floor of the building as she may be unconscious due to concentrated smoke from the fire,” said on-duty officer of Fire Service Control Room Sri Bajan Sarker. “She was transferred to the Northern Hospital and the duty doctor declared her dead.” Meanwhile, seven fire fighting units rushed to the spot and the fire fighters were able to douse the fire at around 3.30am, said the official. The cause behind the fire immediately was unknown and total damage due to the fire yet to be ascertained, Bajan Sarker added.
