Armed robbers looted 15 tolas of gold and Tk 7.8 lakh in cash from two apartments at Kangsha village in Singair early yesterday.
Locals and inmates said the armed robbers, numbering10-12, stormed into the two-storey building, owned by Selim Hossain, a businessman. They first entered the first first floor breaking open the collapsible gate at around 2 am and looted two tolas of gold ornament and Tk 30,000 of resident Khikon Mia.
Khokon Mia said none of his family members was present at the house at the night.
The armed robbers later got into the second floor, beat and injured the owner, Selim Hossain.
They took away Tk 7.5 lakh and 13 tolas of gold ornament from there.
Selim, who is the proprietor of Millennium Traders at Singair Bazaar, said the robbers looted the valuables at gunpoint.
Neighbours took injured Selim to Singair Upazila Health Complex. He was later shifted to a private clinic in Dhaka.
Police inspector (investigation) Aminul Islam of Singair police station said police are trying to recover the looted cash and goods.
