Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has asked people to inform the police about those involved in extortion by introducing themselves as police informers, reports UNB. Talking to reporters at the DMP media centre yesterday, deputy commissioner (media) Md Maruf Hossain urged all to inform the local police station if any one is involved in extortion of money by posing as a source. He also suggested lodging complaint with the higher authorities if any police member is involved in extorting money. “Authorities will take legal action against the informer or police member involved in extortion. Our position is to show zero tolerance and we won’t spare anyone in this connection,” the DC added.
About the death of a tea-seller who caught fire from his kerosene stove as it was hit allegedly by a policeman in the city’s Mirpur area on Wednesday, Maruf Hossain Sarder said three sub-inspectors, one ASI and one constable have already been suspended in this connection.
