Nasim hopes BNP will take part in UP polls
SIRAJGANJ: Awami League presidium member, spokesman of the 14-party alliance and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim hoped here yesterday that all the political parties including BNP would take part in the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) polls to consolidate democracy and for the sake of restructuring and reinvigorating their respective parties.
Like the Pourasabha (municipal) polls, the Union Parishad elections will also be free, fair and peaceful, he said calling upon the BNP to take preparations for the national polls of 2019 taking part in the local bodies elections.
The minister said this in reply to a question relating to the upcoming UP polls after visiting the construction work of the 31-seat health complex building at Bagbati Union under Sadar Upazila in the district.
Sirajganj District Awami League (AL) general secretary Golam Kibria, Krishak League central organising secretary Sakhawat Hossain Sweet, Sadar Upazila AL general secretary Mizanur Rahman Dudu, Bagbati Union AL president Ali Hossain Mallick and general secretary Jahangir Alam were present, among others.
Mohammad Nasim said, BNP has started walking on the right track in politics by taking part in the just concluded Pourasabha polls. They have realised that the support of the common people cant be achieved by killing people, hurling patrol bombs and setting them on fire in the name of so-called movement. They have taken part in the local bodies polls as good sense has prevailed upon them at long last.
The senior Awami League leader said, People are with the present government now. It has been proved in the recently held Pourasabha polls in which people gave their mandate overwhelmingly in favour of the candidates of Awami League.
