Seven robbers arrested

 Police arrested seven highway robbers from Soydabad approach road on the western side of Bangabandhu Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge in Sirajganj district yearly yesterday.
Rakibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge western Thana said they had information that a gang of highway robbers in the guise of microbus drivers, helpers and passengers have been committing robberies on on the Dhaka-North Bengal highway.
They have snatching cash, mobile sets, gold ornaments and other valuables from innocent passengers over the last few months, he said.
Acting on a tip off, the police raided Soydabad approach road area at around 3.30am and intercepted a microbus. After a search inside the microbus, police recovered 13 mobile phone sets and Tk 14,000 in cash. They seized the microbus and arrested seven persons, including driver and helpers.
   The arrestees are Swadin Mian, 32, of Joypara Dakshminpara of Dohar police station in the capital, Uzzal Molla, 33, of Porabari village in Kashiany thana, Saiful Islam Tuhin, 38, of Kawniya Uttarpara village in Moksudpur thana of Gopalganj district, Enayet Sheikh alias Ena, 37, of Chhagoldi village in Nagorkanda thana, Jewel Rana, 25, of Bagat Pashchimpara village in Modhukhali thana, Rafiqul Islam alias Koti, 22, of Kazirdi Beparypara village in Boalmari thana and Babul Akhtar Apple, 36, of Kamargram village in Alfadanga thana of Faridpur district.
