A man and his son were shot to death by his brother following an altercation over catching fish in a pond at Khagaria in Satkania Upazila of Chittagong yesterday. The victims were identified as Md Edris, 62, and his son Md Khalek, 32, residents of Khagaria area under Satkania Police Station of the district.
Kazi Abdul Awal, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong said, “Following a longstanding dispute between brothers Edris and Shafiqul, the two locked into an altercation over catching fish in a pond yesterday afternoon. At one stage of the brawn, Shafiqual Islam brought out a gun and shot his brother Edris and nephew Khalek. Both the victims died on the spot.”
When contacted over telephone yesterday evening, Satkania Police Station Officer-In-Charge Khandaker Farid Uddin said, “I am currently at the spot of the incident. Family members said there was a longstanding enmity between the two siblings Shafiqul and Edris over catching fish in the pond. On Saturday, when both went to the pond to catch fish, the two bothers locked into an altercation where Edris’s son Khalek was also present. At one point, Shafiqul shot the two, causing their death.”
However, police could not arrest Shafique till filing the report yesterday at 7:10pm. A case was being filed over the murders of Edris and Khalek, said OC Farid Uddin.
