DSCC evicts 150 illegal establishments at Shahbagh

Dhaka South City Corporation(DSCC) in a drive yesterday evicted around 150 temporary and permanent illegal establishments at Shahbagh in the capital, reports UNB.
Chief Estate Officer of DSCC Khaled Ahmed along with executive magistrate Mamunur Rashid started the drive at around 1pm which continued till 4:40 pm.
Additional police were deployed in the area to avert any unpleasant incident during the drive. During the drive, around 150 illegal shops and different parts of the flower market which were extended illegally were demolished from in front of Shishu Park and its nearby area, said Khaled Ahmed.
Besides, two food shops- ‘Ovijat Snacks’ and ‘Apu Snacks’ -inside the Shishu Park were fined of Tk 5,000 and Tk 3,000 respectively for selling food items at higher rate as well as to occupy space illegally in front of the two shops, he said. Drive against illegal establishments will continue, he said.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) evicted around 100 makeshift establishments illegally occupying footpaths of several areas, including Dhakeshawri Road, Azimpur Etimkhana Road and its adjoining areas in the capital on January 14.
Sources at the DSCC said the city corporation’s executive magistrate Khan Md Nazmus Shoeb along with adequate number of police conducted the drive from 11:30am, and it continued till 1:00pm.
Contacted, Executive Magistrate Khan Md Nazmus Shoeb said around 100 illegal small makeshifts, which were built grabbing footpaths and city streets, were removed during the drive.
The drive was conducted as part of DSCC’s initiative to free the footpaths from illegal occupation and allow smooth movement of pedestrians, he added.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Sunday also evicted hundreds of illegal makeshift shops in Gulistan area of the capital.
The drive, led by DSCC executive magistrate Khan Mohammad Nazmus Shoaib, began at Golapshah Mazar intersection around 11am and ended at Sergeant Ahad Police Box Mor via Gulistan intersection, evicting all the makeshift shops on both sides of the road and the footpath. Members of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) assisted the DSCC officials during the drive. The Juba League office at Gulistan intersection was also evicted.
