5 Ctg DB men suspended

Five members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police were suspended yesterday allegedly for conducting a drive at a business firm without any authorisation and intimidating the owner that he would be implicated in false arms and drugs cases.
The police personnel are Sub Inspector Amirul Islam, Assistant Sub Inspector Zahirul Islam, and constables Shohel Mahmud, Golam Samdani, and Shah Alam.
The suspended DB men conducted a drive at the office of RH Properties located on the ground floor of Lancet Diagnostic Center Building on the city’s KB Fazlul Kader Road area on June 8 (Monday) and allegedly extorted Tk 3 lakh from the businessman threatening him that he would be implicated in false cases and that the police found arms, ammo, and drugs in the office.
During the drive, the DB men allegedly kept Yaba tablets on the desk of the Sayed Nasim Ahmed, owner of the business firm, and realized Tk 3 lakh from him. However, the police action was recorded in the CCTV cameras of the firm.
Sayed Nasim Ahmed filed a General Diary (GD) with Panchlaish Police Station later on Tuesday night in connection with the police harassment.
A newspaper also published a report on the incident yesterday. Following the case and the report, the DB authorities came up with the suspension order.
When contacted, CMP Deputy Commissioner (DB) Kusum Dewan said, “If a police team conducts any drive, they need to file an internal GD beforehand. However, the accused team did not lodge any GD, so we have suspended them temporarily. Further action will be taken after an investigation.”
