A suspected robber sustained bullet injury in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Benatala in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira early yesterday. Police recovered two bullet shells, two crude bombs and a machete from the spot. The injured was Sohor Ali Torofdar, 35, of Sankarpur village. Subhash Biswas, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj police station, said acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area at about 3am, when a gang of robbers was preparing to commit theft. Sensing their presence, the robbers hurled bombs at the police, forcing them to fire back. In the ensuing gunfight Sohor Ali, a suspected robber, got injured. Police arrested him while his associates managed to flee the scene. Sohor Ali was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital under police custody.
