Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the police to gain people’s confidence by ensuring the overall security of public life and property and ensuring their welfare, reports UNB.

Listing various socio-economic achievements of her government in various fields, the Prime Minister said that the current poverty rate in Bangladesh is now 22 percent and hoped that Bangladesh would be freed from poverty in future.
She extended her heartfelt thanks to those members of Bangladesh police and other law enforcement agencies who have sacrificed their lives and got injured while tackling the mayhem unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat before the January-5 polls and during the hartal and blockade for 92 days early this year.
About the Police Plaza, Hasina hope with the establishment of such nice Plaza at a scenic place near Hatirjheel, the income from this Plaza would be utilized properly for the welfare of the police members. IGP AKM Shahidul Haque delivered the welcome address at the programme.
Senior police officials Gazi Md Mzammel Haque and Shoaib Reaz Alam made a short presentation on the Police Plaza and the Bangladesh Police Kalyan Trust which was established back in 2000 under the auspices of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with a seed money of Tk 5 crore.
