Man killed in clash over sand lifting

Sirajganj: A man was killed and 17 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over sand lifting from the Jamuna River in Sharghat area of Sirajganj municipality on Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Babu Islam, 32, a truck driver and, a resident of Putiabari.
OC of Sadar police station Habibul Islam said there had been a longstanding dispute between Ansar group of Hosenpur and Bellal group of Putiabari over extraction of sand from the Jamuna. On Monday, over the issue, the two groups locked into a clash leaving Babu dead on the spot.
