The formal trial of 16 people, including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, will begin on March 1 in the Tk 45.49-crore loan default case over Dandy Dyeing Limited, reports UNB.
Judge of Dhaka’s Bankruptcy Court-1 Fatema Ferdous fixed the date yesterday after framing charges against them.
The court also rejected two petitions—one for deferring the hearing on framing issues and another for excluding Khaleda Zia from the case—filed by BNP chief’s counsel AKM Fakhrul Islam.
The other accused are Tarique Rahman, late Arafat Rahman Koko, his wife Sharmila Rahman and their two daughters - Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman—Khaleda Zia’s younger brother Maj (retd) Sayeed Iskander, Shams Iskander, Shafin Iskander, Sumaiya Iskander, Nasrin Ahmed, Gias Uddin Al Mamun and his wife Shahina Begum, Gazi Galib Abdus Sattar, Shamsun Nahar and Masud Hassan.
On March 17, 2015, Khaleda, her late youngest son Arafat Rahman Koko’s wife Sharmila Rahman and their two daughters were made defendants in the case. The court allowed the petition filed by the counsel for Sonali Bank seeking inclusion of the four names as inheritors of late Koko, one of the directors of the company who died in Malaysia on January 24, 2015.
