Investment proposals rise by 49pc during Oct-Dec

Investment proposals both from local and foreign entrepreneurs surged by 48.96 percent during October-December quarter (Q2) of 2015-16 fiscal, according to the latest data of the Board of Investment (BoI), reports BSS.
During the three months, BoI received proposals for investing a total of Taka 21 thousand 692 crore 36 lakh from the local and the foreign
entrepreneurs for investing in 402 industrial units, which was Taka seven thousand 130 crore 28 lakh 85 thousand for 372 industrial units in the July-September quarter.
In October-December BoI received proposals from overseas investors for investing a total of Taka one thousand 138 crore 24 lakh in some fully foreign owned and joint venture units with local entrepreneurs. The proposed amount was 34.99 per cent higher over the first quarter's figure of July-September. In July-September quarter, BoI received investment proposal of Taka eight hundred 43 crore 20 lakh. Like the foreign investors, local entrepreneurs also evinced more enthusiasm during October-December quarter, by proposing substantial amount for investment, which in terms of value was 49.82 per cent higher than the proposed amount of first quarter in the fiscal. A total of 376 industrial units got registered with BoI in October-December this year with an investment proposal of Taka 20 thousand 554 crore 12 lakh, which was Taka 13 thousand 718 crore 87 lakh in the July-September quarter.
According to BoI, the highest number of proposals came for the engineering industries, which was 25.98 per cent of the total proposed amount. The chemical sector came next with 22.28 percent followed by service with 15.22 percent, agriculture with 13.98 per cent and others 22.54 per cent.
The BoI said that the investment proposal from local and foreign entrepreneurs would create a total of 56 thousand 216 jobs in the newly 402 registered industrial units.
