Fellowship online registration begins
The online registration of 'WE CAN-Daffodil Apps Fellowship-2016', jointly organised by WE CAN, Bangladesh and Daffodil International University (DIU) began on Monday and will continue till February 6, says a press release.
The fellowship programme will begin soon with an aim to develop apps on women rights issue that would compliment WE CAN and DIU as a ‘Change Maker’ to the society.
This was informed at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters Unity (Sagor-Runy Auditorium) on Sunday. The press conference was presided over by Yousuf M Islam, vice-chancellor of DIU.  Conducted by Syed Mizanur Rahman, director (Students’ Affairs) of DIU, the press conference was addressed by Advocate Sultana Kamal, chairperson, WE CAN Bangladesh, Md Sabur Khan, chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU.   The age group of participants will be 16 to 30 and participants will have to make a group of 5 members from different discipline like CSE, Software Engineering, Journalism and MASS Communication, Law and Literature. In primary selection 20 groups will be selected and finally 8 groups will battle for top positions. There will be prize money for the winners in 5 categories, in total of Tk 5 lakh including 1st prize of Tk 2 lakh.

Mechatronics eng dept starts journey at DU

Maiden journey of a new department named ‘Mechatronics Engineering Department’ began at Dhaka niversity (DU) on Monday.
The department made its start with three highly qualified PhD holders faculty members and 16 first year (hons) meritorious students. Vice-Chancellor (VC) AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the Department as the chief guest at a function held at his office lounge. Presided over by newly appointed Chairman of the department Hafiz Muhammad Hassan Babu, the function was addressed, among others, by Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology Rafiqul Islam, Nawara Mahmood Broti and Julkarnyne Tasin. Welcoming the students, Prof Arefin congratulated them for becoming students of the first batch at Mechatronics Engineering Department. He said Mechatronics Engineering is the top most and latest technology-based subject in the world. Despite some limitations, this department would be given a complete frame and shape very soon, the VC added. Orientation programme held at UIU

A two-day orientation programme for the newly admitted students of Spring 2016 trimester held at United International University (UIU) auditorium recently, says a press release.
Newly admitted students in the School of Business and Economics and School of Science and Engineering participated in the orientation programme.
UIU Vice Chancellor M Rezwan  Khan presided over the ceremonies while  Pro Vice Chancellor Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, dean, School of Business & Economics Md Musa, dean of School of Science and Engineering SM Lutful Kabir, Head of the Department of Economics Amirul Islam Chowdhury.
MBA Program Coordinator Badruzza Miya, BBA Program Director, Abu Saleh Md Sohel-Uz-Zaman, EEE Head, Md Raqibul Mostafa, CSE Head, Salekul Islam, Registrar ASM Salahuddin, Director of Students Affairs, Suman Ahmmed  spoke in the programmes.
The speakers said at the orientation programme that providing quality education is the prime concern of this university.
The speakers also advised the students to be more attentive to their academic studies to face the challenges of 21st Century.

RU connected with UGC research and edn network

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University (RU) has been connected with Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN), an information and technology-based network of Bangladesh University Grants Commission yesterday.
Vice-chancellor Prof Mijanuddin inaugurated the network connectivity at RU ICT centre as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mijan said the new connectivity has opened up a door of exchanging information relating to education and research between different universities both home and abroad through video conferencing.
