Sweater factory catches fire

At least four workers and several fire fighting personnel were injured when a fire broke out at a sweater factory in Malekerbari area of the city yesterday morning.
However, the reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
Assistant deputy director of Gazipur fire service Akteruzzaman Liton said the fire originated from a warehouse of 7th floor of Matrix Sweater Limited, an 8-storied building situated at Malekerbari yesterday at around 7.30 am. The fire engulfed the whole floor soon and huge ready made garments that were stored for shipment were burnt to ashes.
On information, 3 units of fire service from Joydebpur rushed to the spot. Later, 21 more units from Tongi, Kaliganj, Bhaluka of Mymensingh, Savar, Dhaka EPZ and Dhaka Fire Service joined them and doused the fire at around 1.30pm.
Fire service sources said 4 workers of the factory and some of fire fighting personnel were injured while they were trying to douse the flame. They were sent to the factory clinic for treatment. Getting the news, director of fire service (operation) Major AKM Shakil Newaj visited the spot.
However, a five-member committee led by additional district magistrate Rahenul Islam was formed to probe into the incident. The committee was asked to submit the report within seven working days.
