Bangladesh Under-19 skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz inscribed his name in the record book as the highest wicket-taker in world youth one day international cricket yesterday.
Breaking the eight-year-old record Bangladesh skipper earned this distinctive feat. He made the accolade just one day after his teammate and swarm friend Nazmul Hossain Shantos another record.
Shanto on Sunday became the highest run-getter in youth one day international cricket breaking Sami Aslams 1695-run record when he smashed an unbeaten century against Scotland in the second Group-A encounter of the ongoing U-19 World Cup.
It is a surprising matter that both Bangladeshi players created the new record eclipsing the previous record holders, who were the players from Pakistan.
Bangladesh skipper eclipsed the previous record of Pakistans Imad Wasim taking two wickets against Namibia in the third and last Group-A match at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Coxs Bazar.
Spinner-turn-batsman conceded just 12 runs to take two wickets after bowling of 7.5 overs. He levelled the wicket-tally of 73 with Imad Wasim when he trapped Van Lingen leg before wicket in the second delivery of his third over.
The off-spinner thereafter made the record when he bamboozled Warren Van Wyk, the last batsman of African side with his spin magic.
Imad Wasim, who kept the record for his own possession for the last eight-year, scalped 73 wickets from 49 matches with the best bowling figures of 5-38, where his economy was 4.24 during his four-year youth career (2005-2008).
The 18-year-old off-spinner was just two wickets shy of his feat before the onset of the match against Namibia.
I am really happy to be the highest wicket-taker but the important thing is to ensure the teams victory. Hope Ill put up such performance to help the side win in the coming days, said Mehedi Hasan Miraz after the end of the match.
Another three Bangladeshi bowlers are in the top 10 ten wicket-takers list in youth cricket. Of them, Mahmudul Hasan placed fourth with 66 wickets. And, Saleh Ahmed Shawon Gazi and Shuhrawardi Shuvo remained eight and ninth with the identical number of 55 wickets each.
But the three Bangladesh bowlers showcased their best economy rate amongst top 10 bowlers.
