Judicial probe ordered against SI
A Dhaka court yesterday ordered a judicial probe into the allegations of sexual harassment of a female student of a private university by police Sub-Inspector Ratan Kumar.
Judge Salauddin Ahmed of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 passed the order after the victim filed a case with the court.
The authorities concerned have already suspended SI Kumar of Adabor Police Station, and formed a two-member body to probe the allegations, Deputy Police Commissioner (TejgaonDivision)Biplab Kumar Sarker said. The police official was closed after the allegation was raised against him on Sunday.
According to the case statement, SI Ratan, along with two constables, intercepted the woman, a student of ASA University, near Japan Garden City in the capital on Sunday.
After forcing her to get down from the rickshaw, the SI took the woman to a nearby shop where he claimed that the victim was a drug peddler and had 200 Yaba tablets on her. The policemen searched my bag for about an hour and asked me to take off my jacket and kept using indecent language, the woman said.
The woman also urged the SI to get a policewoman or do the frisking at the police station, but he didnt listen, accorduing to the case document.
