Three get Mother Teresa Padak
Benapole: Three distinguished Bangladeshi citizens have received the 16th Mother Teresa Padak for various humanitarian activities, reports UNB.
The award recipients including Jagorani Chakra Foundation (JCF) executive director Azadul Kabir Arzoo in charity activities, Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayor AJM Nasir Uddin in human services and Dr Gazi Mizanur Rahman in education. Arch Bishap Thamas D’Suja handed over the awards to them at a function at Eastern Zone Cultural Center Auditorium at Salt Lake in Kolkata on Saturday. Azadul Kabir Arzoo, executive director of Jagorani Chakra Foundation (JCF) said, ‘This padak is a not only my prestige, but for Bangladesh.’
Female student stabbed
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chapainawabganj

A female college student was stabbed and injured by a criminal at Singroil village in Nachole upazila yesterday.
She was identified as Masuma Khatun, 17, daughter of Harunur Rashid of the aforesaid area.
She is a 1st year HSC at Nachole Degree College. OC of Nachole thana Fasir Uddin said as Masuma was going to her private tutor at around 6.45 am a criminal stabbed her on the way and also tried to kill her by strangulating. But, as she started shouting, the miscreant fled away.
The locals rescued her and took her to the Upazila Health Complex, the OC said. He said the criminal might be the anonymous caller who had earlier proposed her.
Woman burnt alive
Joypurhat: An elderly woman was killed as her blanket reportedly caught fire from a burning biri at Aima Rasulpur village in Panchbibi upazila on Sunday night, reports UNB.
Achhiya Begum, 70, wife of Abdul Malek of the village, died inside her room, police and family members said. She was mentally ill and a chain smoker.
Officer-in charge of Panchbibi Police Station Ashraful Islam said Achhiya’s family members noticed a burning smell coming from her room around 10pm and it was too late to save her. As the family members entered the room, they found her dead - some part of the body burnt—amid smokes emanating from the burnt out blanket and bed-sheet of her bed.
Youth arrested with arms
NATORE: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 yesterday  arrested a young man with a foreign made revolver and 4 rounds of ammunition from Baraigram of the district, reports BSS.
Md Sohel Reza, Adl. SP of RAB-5 said they raided the residence of one Abdul Majid of Moukhara area under Baraigram upazila of the district and  recovered arms and ammunitions on Saturday night.
