Comprehensive efforts for building drug free society stressed

RANGPUR: There is no alternative to engaging comprehensive efforts of all concerned in launching an effective social movement for building a society free from drug abuse and addiction to save future generations, reports BSS.
The views were expressed at the concluding discussion arranged at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner after completing observance of the month-long anti-drug campaign and publicity-2016 on Sunday afternoon.
The district administration with District Drugs and Narcotics Control Department (DNCD) in association with different social organisations and NGOs observed the month-long anti -drug campaign and publicity- 2016 throughout the district in January last.
The campaign was conducted for creating adequate awareness among the common people about the severe consequences, effects and impacts of drug abuse and drug addiction to save the youths from ruining their future. Deputy Commissioner Rahat Anwar attended and addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the DNCD Dilara Rahman in the chair.  District Superintendent of Health Arbindu Kumar Modak, Deputy Director (Local Government) Sultana Parveen, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Education & ICT) Tanima Tasmin, ADC (Revenue) Mostain Billah, Additional District Magistrate Priyosindhu Talukder and Assistant Superintendent of Police Shushanto Kumar addressed, among others. In their speeches, the speakers spoke about the grievous impacts of drug abuse and addiction and put maximum emphasis on creating awareness among the common people against drug addiction for building a drug-free society.
The young generations must be saved from the curse of drug addiction, they said mentioning that the worsening situation might create real barriers for normal growth and flourishing talents of the younger generations in becoming worthy citizens.
The chief guest called for launching social movement against drug abuse involving the people from all walks in the society to sensitise young generations as well as parents about catastrophic consequences of generation-killer drug aggression.
