TRAWLER CAPSIZE IN MEGHNA

5 more bodies recovered

Police recovered the bodies of five more people in last two days raising the death toll to seven from a trawler capsize in the Meghna River in Haimchar upazila of Chandpur. Three bodies were recovered from Kaliganj area yesterday afternoon, and two others were retrieved from the trawler -- MV Robin-1 -- , which went down after colliding with a barge in the Meghna river on January 26. Haimchar UNO SM Sarwar Kamal said the three bodies -- one of a woman, one of a man and the other of a baby-- were seen floating at 2 pm in the Meghna River. On receiving the news from the fishermen a team of police went to the spot and took the bodies to Haimchar.  The deceased have been identified as Nargish Begum, 28, wife of Shah Alam, Ahmadullah Shikder,44 - hailed from Eshanbala Char of Haimchar upazila and two-year-old baby Ratan, son of Mostafa Mridha of Kuichchapara village of Roypur upazila of Laxmipur. Two more bodies were also retrieved from the sunken trawler at 5 pm on Sunday by the rescue team. The bodies were trapped inside the trawler. They have been identified as Aleya Begum, 35, and her daughter Sharna, 4, of Char Bhanga village of Haimchar upazila. They went missing since the trawler with 50 passengers capsized on January 26. At least four more passengers still remain missing. The trawler was pulled out of water on Sunday.
