Kunming-Chengdu- Europe Express Rail opening

According to Kunming Municipal Government, Kunming will join hands with Chengdu in freight transport on the Kunming-Chengdu-Europe Express Rail. In the future,   the   goods   to be exported f r o m Kunming to Europe can be loaded at the Kunming Railway Container Centre and be transported to European countries.
It is estimated that the Kun­ ming-Chengdu-Europe Express Rail will shorten the transport  duration  from  60 days to 16 days as compared with maritime transport and will reduce the transport costs  by  three   quarters as    compared with air transport, while facilitating currency exchange. Upon opening, the Kunming­ Chengdu-Europe Express Rail is expected to transport 308 40-ft standard containers (or nearly 3,000 tons of   goods) to  Europe each year, to  Europe each year, accounting for one sixth of Kunming’s annual trade of Europe. In the three year trial operation of the Kunming-Chengdu-Europe Express Rail, Kunming expects to increase its trade to Europe by 30 percent, or $ 630 million.
