Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has laid emphasis on strengthening the South Asian Speakers’ forum to achieve the new set of global goals named SDGs saying it (Speakers forum) is still a young organisation, reports UNB.
“We’ll have to identify our priorities and have to implement those through coordinated efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” she said.
The Speaker made the remarks when a four-member Parliamentary delegation of Bhutan, led by Speaker Lyonpo Jigme Zangpo, met her at her office yesterday, according to a handout. She said Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will assist the Speakers but the key job will have to be done by the Speakers themselves.
Shirin Sharmin, during the meeting, also discussed various issues of mutual interest including trade, investment, and development issues. Both sides stressed further strengthening the existing bilateral relations between the two countries. The Bhutanese delegation members were Rinzin Dorji, MP, Zangley Dukpa, MP, Bhutan National Assembly secretary general Sanjoy Duba and Bhutanese Ambassador in Dhaka Pema Choden.
