Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza missed out both of the one-day matches of the High Performance (HP) team due to his injury following his rickshaw accident. He was keen to play any of the matches at any cost as part of the match practice ahead of the three-match ODI series against India, starting from June 18.
The second one-day match of the HP is all set to take place at the Shahed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogra today. The first match of the two-match ODI series was held at the same ground on June 10.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) designed the two-match one-day series after the two-match Twenty20 series for the rest of the preliminary squad members as part of practice for the ODI series against India. The pace spearhead didn’t play any match after the conclusion of the month-long home series against Pakistan.
Mashrafe, who dubbed as the “Narail Express, came to Mirpur yesterday to change the dressing of his injured places that he received following the accident. BCB sources said that Mashrafe will not be able to go Bogra to play the match in such situation.
On way to Mirpur to attend the practice session of the Bangladesh ahead of the start of the ongoing home series against the neighbouring country, Mashrafe’s rickshaw was struck by bus and he sustained injury at his palm, knee and leg.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Sabbir Rahman Rumman played the Brevar Celebrity Cricket Tournament for Symphony Orange Rockers without taking any permission of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) which angered the board.
Skipping his involvement with the newly-revived High Performance (HP) team, Rumman took part in the two-day-long meet, which was held on June 8-9 at Shaheed Shuhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
“Sabbir is a promising national player. He is in Bogra with the High Performance Team. He should seek permission from the board. We sought his opinion after getting the matter,” said Naimur Rahman Durjoy, chairman of BCB Cricket Operations, over the phone.
“But we are yet to decide what kind of action we’ll take against him.”
Sabbir expressed his regret over the episode and said, “Yes I have done wrong thing and should have taken necessary permission from BCB before taking part in such type of cricket.”
