Opening show of ‘Pralambito Prahor’ at BSA today

Popular theatre troupe Natyam Repertory will stage the opening show of its brand new play titled ‘Pralambito Prahor’--based on the David Hare’s play ‘The Vertical Hour’-- today at 7pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city. The new play, which is the third production from the troupe, has been dramatised by Abdul Abdus Selim and directed by Irin Parvin Lupa. The play includes Ataur Rahman, Mita Chowdhury, Nur Jaman Raja, Lita Khan and AK Azad Setu in different characters. Junayed Yusuf is in lighting design and Ahsan Reza Khan Tushar in music of the production. The story of the play centres on Nadia Bashir, who teaches in a famous university of the country. During the nineties she was a War Correspondent at Bosnia-Herzegovina and a supporter of the Iraq War in 2003. The play starts in Nadia’s university office room where she discusses an assignment by one of her students named Darius Daud. In the process of their discourse, it was revealed to Nadia’s utter surprise and disappointment that Darius is head over heels in love with her although he has a fiancé. She dismisses him immediately.
Nadia and her boyfriend Panaul Latif go to visit his father Obaedul Latif, who lives in another town. Panaul warns Adiba in more than one way to be aware of his father’s flirty habits as well as his anti Iraq War views. In spite of that, both Nadia and Obaedul soon get entangled in debates on the Iraq War. Nadia expresses her support for Iraq War putting forward her argumentation that the war has at least settled the ethnic cleansing problems in Iraq if nothing else. She also feels all at a loss reminiscing similar situation when she worked as a War Correspondent in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Obaed differs from Nadia on many issues. Meanwhile, Nadia detects a strained as well as the strange relationship between the son and the father, that is, between Darius and Obaed, who more often than not absorb in fierce altercations in between the discussions they have been engaged in. The last scene depicts once more a discussion on an assignment between Nadia and her student Tahera Sarwar at the university office. They also get into a discussion on some personal relationship matters, where Nadia finally declares she is rejoining her old profession of War Correspondence, leaving the university.
