Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has called an inter-ministerial meeting to find out a way to bring back those Bangladeshis who live abroad illegally, said sources in the home and the foreign affairs ministries. The meeting would be held at the home ministry on February 4 with the home minister in the chair, the sources added. A senior official of the home ministry told The Independent that officials of the home and foreign affairs ministries, the Special Branch (SB) of Police, and other ministries and departments will give their opinions on the matter at the meeting. “After hearing them, the authorities concerned will take a decision on bringing back the Bangladeshis living illegally in the US, Australia, Europe and Japan,” he said. Sources said the government has got a list of around 7,000 Bangladeshis, who are allegedly living illegally in the US, Europe, Australia and Japan. The US Department of Homeland Security, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the immigration departments of the European Union (EU), Australia, and Japan have recently handed over their lists to senior officials of the home and foreign affairs ministries of Bangladesh, requesting them to take back these Bangladeshis.
