JS body to discuss BASIC Bank scam

Ministry of Finance, Parlia-ment Secretariat and BASIC Bank would jointly prepare a summary on the irregularities of the BASIC Bank, and it would be discussed in the next meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of finance, reports BSS.
The decision was taken at the 13th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Abdur Razzaque in the chair.
Committee members finance minister A M A Muhith, state minister for finance M A Mannan, M Abdul Wadud, Farhad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury, M Shawkat Chowdhury and Akhter Jahan attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the parliamentary watchdog discussed the implementation progress of the decisions taken in 8th to 12th meetings, report of the financial scam of BASIC Bank, loan and interest rate of commercial banks.
The committee also made recommendation to strengthen and bring dynamism in Insurance Development Regulatory Authority (IDRA) as well as tie up the insurance companies in a system and take necessary measures to modernize the sectors.
Bangladesh Bank Governor,  Bank and Financial Insti-tutions Division Secretary, NBR Chairman, BASIC Bank Chairman, and managing directors of Sonali, Agrani, Janata and Rupali Banks, among others, were present in the meeting.
