Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2016 is going to bag record amount of revenue earnings, worth Tk 1.5 crore, as value added tax due to huge rush following political stability and sound weather.
According to the customs officials at the fair, the VAT worth Tk 1.5 crore have been realised till the 27th day of the ongoing month-long mega expo, which is more than double of the amount collected in same period of the previous year.
The customs officials hoped that the VAT realisation amount would touch the figure of Tk 2 crore by the end of the fair.
Rakibul Hasan, deputy commissioner of Customs Excise and VAT, said a large number of buyers and visitors are swarming to the stalls and pavilions from the very beginning of the fair this year.
“With the increase in number of visitors and buyers, the fair’s participants are also witnessing sound business. Subsequently, the amount of VAT earnings has increased more than twice than that of the previous year, he added.
This year, Walton has paid the highest amount of VAT till on Wednesday, he said adding, the local company is spontaneously depositing a good amount of VAT every day throughout the fair, a press statement said.
Apart from Walton, different brands of furniture items like Hatil, Nadia and Akhter Furniture were also submitted good amount of VAT, he added. For imposing 10 per cent VAT on the furniture items, the VAT realisations from this sector were increased this year, he said.
Ongoing political stability helped the DITF16 draw huge crowd and thus the mega expo is depositing huge amount of revenue earnings as VAT, he noted.
It was learnt that, the previous year’s fair bagged about Tk 65.72 lakh VAT earnings till the 27th day, of which Walton paid off around Tk 5.58 lakh VAT. This year, Walton has paid more than Tk 10 lakh VAT till on Wednesday, securing the top VAT payers as a single entity.
