Seminar on renewable energy begins at DU
A three-day national seminar and exhibition on ‘Renewable Energy to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals: Bangladesh Perspectives’ began at Dhaka University (DU) Mukarram Hossain Khandker Science Building on Wednesday.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid joined the inaugural session of the seminar as the chief guest with DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair. DU Institute of Energy and Bangladesh Solar Energy Society is jointly organising the seminar. Nasrul Hamid said the country's 10 per cent demand of power will met from renewable energy by 2020 as the government is working to make a master plan to modernise the renewable energy sector. He stressed the need for stopping commercialisation of renewable energy sector to make it sustainable and popular. A memorandum of understanding (DU) was signed between Dhaka University and Intraco Group in the function. DU Treasurer M Kamal Uddin and Intraco Group Managing Director Muhammad Riyadh Ali signed the MoU on behalf of the respective institutions.
Later, retired professor of DU Physics Department and Bangladesh Solar Energy Society Adviser Dr Muhtasam Hossain was conferred honour for his outstanding contribution to the development of renewable energy sector in the country. The exhibition will remain open from 9am to 7pm for all.
Younsi University team calls on JU VC
SAVAR: A delegation of Younsi University of South Korea, led by Professor Chung Hwi Yi, called on Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Farzana Islam at her office yesterday, a press release said.
During the meeting they discussed about the development of bilateral research and cooperation in academic sector between the two universities. They also discussed about the sending of JU students to Younsi University for short term and long term programmes. Professor Kisuk Jeon, Dr Hee Jung Kim, Ho Youn Yoon, Kyung Yoon of Younsi University and JU Treasurer Abul Khair and Professor of JU English department Ahmed Reza were present at the meeting among others, the release added.
