Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday formed a human chain at Dhaka-Aricha Highway near the main entrance of university campus to protest killing of a meritorious student of the university in a road crash recently.
The protestors here demanded punishment of the driver and a safe road for commuting.
A procession, attended by more than 200 students and teachers, paraded the campus mourning Yeakub Ali’s death.
The deceased Yeakub Ali, son of Moslem Uddin of Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh district and a master’s student of International Relations (IR) Department of the university, was killed and two others were injured in a road accident on Mymensingh-Dhaka road in Meherbari area of Bhaluka Upazila on January 26.
Later he died on way to Mymensing Medical College and Hospital.
Police, however, could not detain the driver of the truck and his assistant in this connection.
In the human chain, the protestor urged the government to take initiatives against the frequent road accident across the country.
Among others Prof Dr Abdullah Hel Kafi, Associate Prof Ali Akbar, Roni Basak and lecturer Jannatul Habib were attended the procession.
