RAJSHAHI: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, here yesterday said the subject of physical education has been incorporated in the national curriculum and textbook for the sake of making the students physically and mentally sound, reports BSS.
He also said various co-curricular schemes are being implemented aimed at strengthening creativity and capacity building of the students besides their curricular activities for taking them forward with knowledge and science. Physical teachers were appointed in all the schools.
The minister came with the observation while inaugurating the four-day 45th Winter National School and Madrasha Sports Competition- 2016 at Freedom Fighters Memorial Stadium in Rajshahi city as chief guest.
Bangladesh National School and Madrassa Sports Association and Secondary and Higher secondary Education Board, Rajshahi jointly organised the tournament with the main thrust of making the students competent in sports arena.
From 243 educational institutions across the country, more than 776 students including 360 girls are taking part in 35 events both indoor and outdoor in three venues including the Freedom Fighters Memorial Stadium.
Member of Parliament Fazley Hossain Badsha, Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain and Commissioner-in-Charge of Rajshahi division Munir Hossain, Chairman of Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Prof Abu Bakkar Siddique and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury also spoke.
Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher education Prof Fahima Khatun chaired the opening session.
Minister Nahid told the audience that the present government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much positive to transform the students into skilled human resources and has been working relentlessly to this end.
Listing various time-fitting measures adopted by the government towards physical and mental development of the students he urged all quarters including teachers, parents and students to supplement the government endeavour spontaneously.
