The Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined a dyeing and two washing plants in Ashulia and Tejgaon for polluting environment by releasing liquid untreated wastes without setting up the effluent treatment plant (ETP) despite obtaining clearance for them.
The owners or representatives of the three, Chrystal Composite Ltd of Ashulia, Savar and the New Bengal Washing Plant of Tejgaon industrial area, Dhaka and the Dynasty Sweater (Bd) Ltd and the Milleneum sweater Ltd of Aukpara, Ashulia, Savar were summoned at the DoE head office by its director (enforcement) Mizanur Rahman. After the hearing, they were respectively fined Tk 51 lakh, Tk 25 lakh and Tk 12 lakh for the offence, said a DoE release.
