Publish list of martyrs: BNP

Slams AL leaders for criticising CJ
STAFF REPORTER

A top BNP leader yesterday urged government to publish the list of 30,00,000 martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971.

“You (the government) publish the list of 30,00,000 martyrs of the War of Liberation in the newspapers before filing the sedition case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia,” said BNP Standing Committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy at the milad and doa mahfil at party's central office in Naya Paltan.
He also demanded that memorials be built for the martyrs of the Liberation War in each area with the names of all 30 lakh martyrs.
The BNP leader’s comments came amid controversy stirred by the former premier regarding the number of martyrs, which led to filing of a sedition case against her by a pro-AL lawyer. Owing to the case, a Dhaka court on Monday directed Khaleda to appear before the court on March 3 for the next hearing on the case.
The city unit of BNP organised the milad mahfil to mark the first death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko. Goyeshwar called upon party leaders and activists to take to the streets to protest slapping of a sedition case against Khaleda Zia.
In another programme at  Jatiya Press Club, BNP Vice Chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed came down heavily on AL leaders for criticising Chief Justice SK Sinha. He said that the remarks of ruling party leaders against Chief Justice Sinha over his comment is shameful for the nation.
AL leader Suranjit Sengupta on Tuesday said in parliament that the Chief Justice has gone beyond his jurisdiction by making the statement – giving judgment after retirement is against the law and constitution.
The Chief Justice in a message on the occasion of the first anniversary of his taking office said writing verdict after retirement is against the law and constitution.
