Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday told Parliament that 395 industrial plots of 20 BSCIC estates are awaiting allotments across the country, reports UNB.
A process to allocate plots among potential entrepreneurs is underway through district-level plot allotment committees, headed by Deputy Commissioners, he said replying to a question from Jatiya Party MP Mohammad Abdul Munim Chowdhury (Habiganj-1).
No industrial estate, implemented under Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), remain unused now, Amu said.
In reply to a scripted question from AL MP AFM Bahauddin Nasim (Madaripur-3), the Industries Minister said there are 74 industrial estates under BSCIC (Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation) across the country.
Of those, 24 industrial estates are in Dhaka Division, 22 in Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, 17 in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions and 11 in Khulna and Barisal divisions, he said.
Some 5.50 lakh workers are working in the 74 estates, the minister said.
