Foreign workers must get biometric checks
Malaysian immigration department yesterday said foreign workers who are willing to go to the country would be required to go through health screening at registered clinics having access for biometric verifications, according to Malaysian daily The Borneo Post.
Referring to a statement by Malaysian Immigration Director-General Datuk Mustafa Ibrahim, the daily said the biomedical module and application via electronic Visa with Reference (eVDR) module operated under the Foreign Workers Centralised Management System (FWCMS) will be fully implemented from June 15.
This is a security screening to verify that the person being examined is the actual applicant, Ibrahim said.
After the implementation of two main FWCMS modules, Mustafa said, the immigration counters would no longer accept manual applications.
All manual counters will remain open during the transition period for 15 days before they are fully closed from July 1, he said, adding that eVDR is necessary to purchase insurance for the foreign workers and no additional service charges would be imposed for the module.
