NARAYANGANJ: A court here yesterday deferred to February 8 the charge framing in two cases filed in connection with the sensational seven murders, reports UNB.
District and Session Judge Enayet Hossain fixed the date following a time petition filed by the defense lawyers.
Twenty three accused, including prime accused Nur Hossain and three sacked Rab officials-- Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana--, were produced before the court during the hearing. The court also rejected the bail petitions of 13 accused, including Nur Hossain and the three RAB officials, in the two case. Earlier, on January 12, a court deferred to January 27 the charge framing in the two cases.
On July 8 last year, a court accepted the charge sheets in the two cases filed in connection with the sensational seven murders.
The district court accepted the charge sheets rejecting the naraji (no-confidence) petition filed by Selina Islam Beauty, widow of Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam, one of the victims of the gruesome killing. On April 8, detectives pressed charges against 35 people, including three sacked RAB officials -- Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana -- and Nur Hossain.
After the murder of seven people, Selina Islam filed a case against six people while Advocate Chandan Sarkar’s son-in-law filed another case. On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of Narayanganj. At the same time, senior lawyer at District Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakkhya River on April 30. Besides, the following day, the body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river.
