Habiganj: At least 100 people, including three policemen, were injured in a clash between two groups over establishing supremacy at Saidyatala in Baniachang upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
Police and witnesses said there had been longstanding dispute between local union parishad chairman Haidaruzzaman Khan Dhan Miah of Saidyatala and Sardar Bahar Khan of Topkhana over the lease of a water body in Laxmibazar area.
The clash ensued around 11am yesterday following an altercation between the supporters of the duo.
The both groups -– residents of Saidyatala and Topkhana -- equipped with homemade weapons attacked each other, leaving around 97 people injured.
On information, a team of police, led by officer-in-charge of Baniachang Police Station Nirmalendu Chakrabarti, rushed in and tried to bring the situation under control.
However, the feuding groups continued to chase and counter-chase each other that left Nirmalendu, OC Delwar Hossain and constable Abdullah injured.
