Lightning kills seven

Seven people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Satkhira, Narsingdi, Sherpur and Brahmanbaria districts yesterday.
Our Satkhira correspondent reports: Four people were killed and seven others injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Shyamnagar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as Nurunnahar Khatun, 35, of Gabura village, Sajeda Khatun, 25, of Nakipur village, Abdul Hamid Gazi, 32, of Taranipur village, and Jiad Ali, 70, of Paranpur village.
Witnesses said four died on the spot and seven others injured as thunderbolts hit them in the area 8:30am.
The injured were admitted to Shyamnagar upazila health complex. Among them, condition of two was stated to be critical.
Officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar police station Enamul Haque confirmed the incident.
Our Narsingdi correspondent says: Farmer Habibur Rahman, 52, was killed as lightning struck him at Banya Shibpur village in Shibpur upazila.
Another farmer Nazim Uddin was also injured in the incident. A lightning struck the duo when they were working in a field.
Local people sent them to Narsingdi Zila Hospital where attending doctor declared Habibur dead.
In Sherpur, Laki Khatun, 12, a Class-V student of Madhya Nalitabari Government Primary School and daughter of Anwarul Islam of Rajnagar  village in Nalitabari upazila, suffered injuries as she was hit by a  thunderbolt when he was standing in front her house during rain in the morning.
She was rushed to the upazila health complex where doctors declared her dead.
In Brahmanbaria, a lighting strike hit farmer Nurul Amin, 50, of Satgaon village in Bijoynagar upazila, when he was working in his field near his house, leaving him dead on the spot.
